Here are some of the technologies we have available for solving your water treatment problem:

Conventional Physical Separation - Conventional physical separation technologies include media filtration, clarification, dissolved air filtration, and oil water separation. These treatment methods are generally inexpensive and are useful for removing gross amounts of insoluble organic and inorganic contaminants. The physical separation methods are most often used in conjunction with chemical flocculation and coagulation technologies.

Absorption and Adsorption- These techniques are used for certain dissolved organics and inorganics and involve the use of a solid sorbent to remove the contaminants. Capital costs are generally low but media (sorbent) replacement costs can be significant.

Chemical Oxidation - Chemical oxidation can be effective at removing certain organic contaminants or converting metals to metal oxides which can then be removed by conventional separation methods. Typical chemical oxidants include chlorine, chlorine dioxide, and ozone.

Biological Oxidation- Biological oxidation is most commonly used for domestic waste (sewage) treatment although it can also be employed for reduction of organic contaminants in industrial waste. Membrane technologies (such as ultrafiltration) or physical separation methods are used in conjunction with biological oxidation to remove the biosolids from the oxidizing liquor.

Ultrafiltration Membranes - Ultrafiltration, particularly tubular ultrafiltration, is the workhorse of our industrial waste water treatment technologies. It is often combined with other treatment technologies to achieve the desired result; however, it can also be deployed by itself for removal of small suspended solids and emulsified organics.

Reverse Osmosis and Nanofiltration Membranes - Very few water treatment technologies are capable of removing dissolved salts. Pressure driven membrane technologies such as reverse osmosis (RO) and nanofiltration (NF) are less expensive than distillation technologies; however, they are generally limited to feed water dissolved solids concentrations of less than 60,000 ppm. RO and NF also require extensive pretreatment to avoid membrane fouling. Nevertheless, these are very capable and useful technologies when applied properly.

Distillation - Removal of inorganic dissolved solids from feed waters containing more than 60,000 ppm will typically require a distillation method. Operating costs for most distillation technologies tend to be high since it involves a phase change. Capital costs also tend to be high since exotic metals are necessary due to the high salt concentration and high temperatures involved. RODI has years of experience with several distillation methods including vapor compression distillation, muti-stage evaporation, and submerged combustion evaporation. More recently, the professionals at RODI Systems have commenced development of membrane distillation technology specifically for treatment of oil and gas produced water.

Challenging water treatment applications such as produced water, frac flowback, and mine drainage require an integrated treatment approach utilizing mulitple treatment technologies. A "silver bullet" treatment technology simply doesn't exist for these applications.
